JBS Donning and Doffing

After long battles and meetings the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Donning and Doffing grievance has been settled.  Local 227 members received a back pay settlement totaling $171,992.69.  Our members received their checks in time for the Christmas holiday.


UFCW Local 227 Lobby Day

UFCW Local 227’s first annual Lobby Day will be held on February 24, 2010.  If you would like to represent Local 227 in Frankfort and lobby your State Representative and State Senator, please contact your Union Rep.  This is a bi-partisan event – we will be speaking to both Democrats and Republicans and all are welcome to join.  UFCW Local 227 will provide transportation, meals and a free t-shirt.

Local 227 continued the fight to preserve the 1300 jobs of our members employed at JBS (formerly Swift) plant in Louisville.


Unions Cut Special Deal on Health Taxes (January 15, 2010) The Wall Street Journal

Democratic negotiators acceded to union demands for a scaled-back tax on high-end health-insurance plans, exempting union contracts from the tax until 2018, five years beyond the start date for other workers.


Labor Campaigns Against Tax on Health Plans (January 12, 2010) New York Times Union leaders said they feared that under the formula in the Senate bill, the tax would hit more and more health plans, which would pass on the cost to more and more workers.

WORKERS AT WORLDS LARGEST PORK PLANT RATIFY FIRST-EVER UNION CONTRACT

Deal raises Tar Heel workers’ wages and brings up benefits and working conditions to union standards

 

(TAR HEEL NC)—Five Thousand workers at the world’s largest pork processing plant have their first-ever union contract, after a majority of workers ratified the agreement over a two-day vote. Members of UFCW Local 1208 will join more than 10,000 other Smithfield workers, and more than 240,000 others who work in the meat packing and food processing industry who have a UFCW union contract.  click here...
