Fixing a Broken Immigration System

UFCW is committed to protecting our members and improving their lives – no matter where they were born.

Our immigration system is the result of harmful U.S. trade policies such as NAFTA. These policies have cost millions of Americans their jobs and have been at the heart of declining wages in countries like Mexico.

By working with unions, employers and community organizations our lawmakers can craft trade policy protecting the rights and dignity of workers – both at home and around the world – while still allowing companies to compete in the global economy.

UFCW supports comprehensive immigration reform that will end the current cycle of exploitation dragging down wages, benefits and working conditions for everybody.

UFCW believes reform must have:

  • A path to legalization specifying legal, language, culture and community service requirements candidates must fulfill;

  • An end to worksite immigration enforcement that currently fails to protect workers from discrimination and harassment, even when they are American citizens;

  • Meaningful punishments for employers who violate immigration law by importing undocumented workers as a cheap source of exploitable labor;

  • No new guest worker programs that create an underclass in America;

  • A revision of our visa system; and

  • Wage and working condition protections to reduce incentives for employers to hire undocumented workers.

Take Action! Help UFCW protect all workers rights.
