April 9, 2009 Meeting

MINUTES FOR APRIL 9, 2009

Lunch 12:00 pm (noon).  Prayer led by President Jim Hatfield.  Twenty-three (23) members present.

Meeting came to order at 12:50 pm.  Pledge of the flag was led by Jim Hatfield.

Jesse Harris spoke to retirees regarding the Ninth Annual Labor's Salute to Gospel Music, to be held on May 9th at Central High School.  Proceeds goes to benefit Sickle Cell disease.  Union supported benefit.

Speaker - Chandra Davis and husband Roger Davis, owners of "Caskets of Kentucky".  Mrs. Davis spoke about options to purchase caskets, etc. outside funeral home. There is no delivery charge on their merchandise.  The casket is delivered to the funeral home, and the vault delivered to the cemetery.  If any questions about taxes on pre-arranged funerals, check with the Federal Trade Commission.

Minutes of March meeting approved as written.

Treasury Report by Petey Tapp - $126.64 in savings and $795.27 in checking

Check was given to Mary Rucker for $50.00 on the death of her grandson.

Mary Rucker’s report - Mary sent us a thank you note in remembrance of her grandson.
A note was also received from Francell Cox. 

Cards sent to ill members and shut- ins and to families of the deceased. 

A birthday card was sent to President Jim Hatfield (March). 
No more "free" Labor Relations luncheons, usually held at U of L.

It will be $65.00 per person if you would like to attend the banquet at the Olmstead.

Welcome to Tassie Bailey, a new member last month, who decided to give us another try.  Thank you for coming, we need you.  Pass the word to your retired friends---There is strength in numbers,  and we really are nice people.  Come see what you have been missing-----

New Business

  • Motion was made and passed to donate $50.00 to the Sickle Cell Fund c/o Jesse Harris - from Retirees Group.

 

  • Mary McDonald told of up-coming bus trips that may be of interest to some. June 17th - Trip to Bardstown - Stephen Foster story---Price $65.00 ea.  Includes transportation, lunch, and play.
    July (?) a trip to Putin Bay, Ohio.  Information on this later. Two or three days (?).  Sounded interesting.

50/50 won by John Munzer $20.00.

Meeting adjourned at 1:40 pm

Next Retiree's meeting will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Local 227 Gorman Hall, all UFCW Local 227's retirees welcome!
