  Hundreds of UFCW members from across the country flooded the halls of Congress Thursday to tell how the health care crisis has impacted working Americans and to send a strong message to those in Washington that health care reform cannot wait.

  Assembly member John A. Pérez was elected to represent the 46th District in Los Angeles and became the first openly gay Latino elected representative in California. With over 15 years working for the UFCW to advance the lives of working families, John has channeled these values into fighting to create jobs, expand healthcare and protect workers’ rights.

• TAR HEEL SMITHFIELD WORKERS REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT
  
  Smithfield Packing Company and the bargaining committee of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1208 reached a tentative agreement on a first contract for the workers at the Tar Heel pork processing facility.
