How We Support Each Other During the Busiest Time of the Year

The holidays are the busiest time of year in our industries, and no one feels that more than you. You keep our stores running and our communities fed. During long shifts, packed aisles, and last-minute rushes, the thing that gets us through is the same thing that makes our union strong year-round: we look out for each other.

Support isn’t always big or dramatic. Sometimes it’s as simple as sharing information, helping a newer coworker learn the ropes, or checking in on someone who looks overwhelmed. Those small acts of solidarity make a real difference—especially when stress is high and time is short.

But we also know that the holidays can be especially hard for coworkers facing unexpected challenges. Illness, disaster and family emergencies don’t take a break just because it’s the holiday season. That’s why our union has resources in place to help members get through tough moments with dignity.

Our UFCW 227 foundation helps fund hardship grants for members who are struggling with unexpected hardship. These grants are there for situations where a little support can prevent a crisis from becoming something larger.

We also partner with United Way, which connects members to local services and community resources. By calling 211, anyone can get confidential help finding assistance with rent, utilities, food, childcare, and many other needs available right in your community.

No one should have to face hard times alone—and in our union, you don’t have to. As we move through this busy season, let’s keep showing up for each other the way we always do. Our strength comes from the care we give, the solidarity we share, and the belief that every member deserves support, respect, and a fair shot.

Thank you for everything you do and for the way you lift each other up—not just during the holidays, but all year long.
