SUPPORT RAINBOW BLOSSOM WORKERS

We Love This Store. We Want It to Live Up to Its Values.

Rainbow Blossom workers voted to unionize in September 2023 because we care deeply about this store and the community it serves.

We believe the values Rainbow Blossom promotes — fairness, sustainability, community care — should apply not only to products on the shelves, but to the people who stock them.

More than two years later, we are still negotiating our first union contract.

What we need

We are negotiating for basic, reasonable protections, including:

  • Just cause protections — no employee can be disciplined or fired without a real reason and a fair process

  • A clear process for progressive discipline

  • Fair wages and working conditions

  • Union dues deduction (a standard practice that allows workers to fund their union)

These are not extreme demands. They are common provisions in union contracts across Louisville and the country.

How You Can Support

“We love Rainbow Blossom and all it stands for, and we want to make our work environment the best it can be. We hope you’ll join us in securing a great union contract that reflects the values our community believes in.”
— Rainbow Blossom Workers United

We believe this can be resolved.

We are ready to celebrate a fair contract.

The path forward is simple:
Agree to basic protections.
Live up to community values.
Move forward together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Rainbow Blossom workers unionize?

Rainbow Blossom workers voted to unionize in September 2023 to negotiate fair wages, safer working conditions, and basic job protections. Workers believe the store’s progressive values should apply to employees as well as products. Forming a union allows them to negotiate collectively for a first contract.

What are Rainbow Blossom workers asking for?

Workers are negotiating a first union contract that includes just cause job protections, a clear progressive discipline process, fair wages, and standard union provisions such as dues deduction. These are common features in union contracts across Louisville and the U.S.

What is “just cause”?

Just cause means an employee cannot be disciplined or fired without a legitimate reason and a fair process. It is a basic job protection found in many union contracts. Workers believe no one should lose their job without due process and accountability.

Has Rainbow Blossom agreed to a union contract?

No. While negotiations have been ongoing since 2024, workers and management have not yet reached agreement on a first contract. Workers say a major issue is the company’s refusal to agree to just cause protections without tradeoffs.

Is this a strike?

No strike is currently underway. Workers are continuing negotiations and are asking customers and community members to support a fair first union contract.

How can I support Rainbow Blossom workers?

Customers can contact Rainbow Blossom management to express support for a fair first contract with just cause protections. You can also sign the petition, share information with others, and stay connected for updates.
