What’s New in This Update

This post was refreshed to reflect how union meetings work today. It clarifies what members can expect at meetings, updated language for accuracy and accessibility, and links to the current page for meeting dates, times, and locations.

Have you ever seen a notice about an upcoming union meeting — maybe on a flyer, through a text alert, or from a union rep — and meant to go, but something got in the way? You’re not alone. But when you miss a union meeting, you miss out on information, connection, and opportunities to stay engaged with your union.

What Happens at a Union Meeting

Union membership meetings are a key way UFCW 227 keeps members informed and connected. At meetings, members can hear updates about:

  • Member-only benefits and programs, including scholarships, discounts, and assistance programs

  • Upcoming events, trainings, and opportunities to get involved

  • Union activity and workplace updates, including contract timelines, campaigns, and resources available to members

Meetings are one of the main ways your union communicates directly with members — making sure everyone has access to accurate information and knows where to go for help when they need it.

Why Attending Matters

Union meetings give members the chance to:

  • Ask questions and get clarity about their contract, benefits, or union services

  • Raise concerns or share experiences so union staff and leaders better understand what members are facing

  • Stay informed, instead of relying on rumors or second-hand information

  • Build relationships with coworkers and fellow members across worksites

Being informed and connected makes it easier to stay engaged and involved in the life of the union.

Staying Engaged Builds a Stronger Union

A strong union depends on members who are informed, involved, and connected to one another. Union meetings help create that foundation by giving members regular access to information and to the people who support them.

When more members attend, communication across the union is stronger — and members are less likely to feel left out or in the dark.

Make a Plan to Attend

If you haven’t been to a union meeting in a while, consider attending the next one. Bring your questions, listen for updates, and invite a coworker to come with you.
